2025 Audi RS6 Avant GT – Practicality Meets Power
This unique luxury wagon combines blistering acceleration and effortless handling with a luxury-class interior and advanced infotainment features. However, a firm ride and high price tag may be a turnoff for some shoppers.
To make the RS 6 Avant GT stand out from its more basic brethren, Audi added carbon fibre details to the hood and front fenders, along with new cutouts that help excellent brakes. It also threw in some unique wheels and an exclusive livery that honours the RS 90 Quattro IMSA GTO race car it was named after.
POWER
While Audi’s RS 6 Avant Performance is an impressive sports wagon in its own right, the limited-edition GT takes things up a notch. It’s powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V-8 that makes 621 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough to send the superwagon from zero to 62 mph in just 3.3 seconds and propel it to a top speed of 191 mph.
That kind of speed requires serious grip, so Audi tinkered with the Q8 SUV’s Quattro system. The company tuned the center and rear differentials better to distribute power between the front and rear wheels. In Dynamic mode, the system can send up to 85 percent of the power to the rear axle for added traction.
The RS 6 Avant GT also adds new wheels and tires that improve handling, as well as a carbon-fibre hood that mimics the front fenders of Audi’s championship-winning IMSA GTO race car from the 1980s. It’s a subtle upgrade but a significant one. The particular model is limited to 660 units around the world, with just 85 headed to America. The only colour choice is a lurid white that’s reminiscent of the race car’s paint scheme.
Inside the cabin, upscale luxury features make the RS 6 Avant GT feel like a proper Audi. You’ll find heated and ventilated front seats, four-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and wireless phone charging. The rear seats fold flat, allowing for up to 30 cubic feet of cargo space.
HANDLING
Its twin-turbo V-8 engine, Quattro all-wheel drive, and meticulously crafted chassis effortlessly transcend the conventional boundaries of station wagons, delivering an unforgettable driving experience. But the 2025 RS 6 Avant GT goes a step further, elevating performance to a whole new level by adding manual-adjustable suspension and unique styling details.
The RS 6 Avant GT is limited to 660 units worldwide, with 85 making their way to the U.S. It’s based on the regular RS 6 Avant Performance, which has been upgraded to produce 621 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque and sprints from zero to 60 in 3.4 seconds. But this special edition adds a carbon fibre hood and front fenders, a rear spoiler, and an optional set of 22-inch wheels that cut the car’s unsprung weight by 11 pounds per corner.
To help keep the RS 6 Avant GT’s tires planted to the pavement, its adjustable dampers can be manually tuned in three settings. The car rides 10 millimetres lower than the standard RS 6 Avant, and its front anti-roll bars are 30 percent stiffer. Audi also removed some sound deadening to let you hear the roar of its burbly V8.
The RS 6 Avant GT’s interior is otherwise unchanged from the regular RS 6 Avant Performance, but it does feature unique seats with red and copper stitching that hark back to older Audi race cars. The steering wheel and door sill kick plates have a GT logo, and an engraved plaque reminds you of the vehicle’s exclusivity.
INTERIOR
The RS 6 Avant Performance offers a compelling blend of functionality and power in the form of a wagon. It can seat five in luxury-class comfort, haul 30 cubic feet of gear behind the rear seats, and reach a top speed of 155 mph. It’s also a hoot to drive with its potent V8 and reprogrammed 8-speed automatic transmission that slams through shifts on demand using large steering wheel paddles when in Dynamic mode. The adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping systems are smooth and easy to use, too.
This particular GT variant is a limited edition of the 2025 RS 6 Avant, with only 660 units being built worldwide and 85 coming to America. It has a unique decal package and exterior enhancements inspired by the brand’s IMSA racing heritage that makes it stand out from its standard siblings. Its blocky Avus concept-inspired carbon wheels painted Arkona white are also a welcome visual touch, as is the massive stacked rear wing inspired by Audi’s historic race cars.
Inside, the RS 6 Avant GT carries over the upscale interior of the regular RS 6. However, it gets some sportier accents like red and copper stitching for the front seats and a particular etched number to remind drivers of its limited production run. It also boasts a large, 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless phone charging, and a surround-view camera for more accessible parking. Optional upgrades include:
- A head-up display.
- Massaging front seats.
- More decadent leather.
- A power rear liftgate.
FUEL ECONOMY
The RS6 Avant GT isn’t just a visual tweak. Its 621-horsepower V8 and eight-speed automatic transmission remain the same, and Quattro all-wheel drive still sends 40 percent to the front wheels under normal conditions and up to 85 percent to the rear when needed. What the RS6 Avant GT adds is an improved version of Audi’s standard adjustable coilover suspension, which lowers the ride height by 10 millimetres and has a new three-way adjuster that lets you dial in the stiffness of the dampers.
The result is a more composed, less nervous car during aggressive driving and a significantly improved ability to put all that power down when accelerating out of corners. The Avant GT also gets unique front and rear differential tuning to enhance the car’s grip by about 30 percent compared with the regular RS6 Avant.
With a combined city/hwy MPG rating of 14/15 and an impressive 0-60 time of just over four seconds, the RS6 Avant GT delivers on its promise to provide performance without sacrificing daily driving comfort or utility. Its spacious, versatile cargo area offers seating for five and 30 cubic feet of storage. At the same time, upscale standard features include an infotainment system with two 12.3-inch digital displays, wireless phone charging, four-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof. Buyers can also spec the RS6 Avant GT with a variety of opulent optional features such as a head-up display, massaging front seats, and more luxurious leather trim.
